Quick answer: The best gambling addiction app depends on what you need. QuitBet (our app) is the best all-in-one option on iPhone. Gamban is the best paid blocker for phones and computers, BetBlocker is the best free blocker, and Evive is the best free support app. Ideally, use a blocker, a recovery app and human support together.

Most betting happens on a phone now. Online betting made up about 96.5% of the US sports betting market in 2025, according to the American Gaming Association, so your phone is also the best place to start fighting back.

Below are 12 options, from blockers and recovery apps to free phone settings and a 24/7 helpline, each with its US price, platforms and biggest catch.

QuitBet is our app. We've included it because we built it for exactly this, but we've tried to be fair about where other tools are a better fit.

How did we pick these apps?

We checked more than 30 gambling-related apps on the US App Store and Google Play and kept the ones that do one job well. A stop gambling app made the list if it held up on most of these questions:

  1. Does it block gambling sites and apps, and on which devices?
  2. Does it help in the moment an urge hits?
  3. Is there a community or a real person to lean on?
  4. What does it cost in the US, in actual dollars?
  5. Does it run on iPhone, Android or a computer?
  6. How hard is it to switch off at 2am? A blocker you can delete in ten seconds won't protect you from yourself.
  7. What does its privacy label say?

Prices, platforms and ratings come from each app's App Store listing or official website, checked on October 10, 2026. We didn't test every competitor's features hands-on, so developer claims are labeled as theirs. Don't lean too hard on star ratings, either. Many of these apps have fewer than 20 ratings, and a Yale-led review of gambling apps found that store ratings didn't track app quality.

The 12 best apps to quit gambling in 2026

1. QuitBet: best all-in-one app for iPhone

QuitBet - Quit Gambling Now is our iPhone app (App Store ID 6757939751). Two unrelated apps also use the QuitBet name, from Boulevard Legacy LLC and Mone Apps LLC, so check the app name and ID before you download.

We built QuitBet for the moment you reach for your phone to bet. You map your triggers and high-risk times, build a quit plan, log cravings and mood in daily check-ins, and watch your streak and money saved grow. When an urge hits, there's a panic button, quick exercises, and an AI coach you can message. A Learn section has articles, podcasts and videos, and the March 2026 update added a community forum, group chat, and an app and website blocker for sportsbooks and casino apps (quitbet.co).

Price: free to download, including a trigger check and a preview of your quit plan. Everything else needs a subscription: $8.99 a week, $14.99 a month, or yearly plans from $19.99 to $49.99 on the App Store. The yearly plans are the best value if you're planning to stick with it, and you can start for free.

Platforms: iPhone only (iOS 18 or later).

What to know before you pay: QuitBet is new (it launched in January 2026). Its blocker only protects the phone it's on, so add Gamban or BetBlocker if you also bet on a laptop. QuitBet hasn't been tested in a clinical trial either. Use it alongside therapy, GA or the helpline, not instead of them.

2. Gamban: best paid gambling blocker app

Gamban, from UK company Gamban Ltd, stops gambling websites and apps from loading on your phone and computer. Pick it if you bet on more than one device or keep reinstalling sportsbook apps you deleted.

Its App Store listing says it blocks online casinos, slots, sports betting, poker, lotteries, prediction markets and crypto gambling. One subscription covers all your personal devices and includes progress monitoring and help with self-exclusion.

Price: $6.99 a month or $41.99 a year after a 7-day free trial (Gamban pricing). Michigan residents can get it free through a Michigan Gaming Control Board partnership.

Platforms: iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. App Store rating: 4.0 from 102 ratings.

The catch: Gamban is a blocker, not a recovery program, so there's no community or urge support. It also won't remove the app before your subscription period ends. That's annoying on a calm day when you change your mind, and exactly what you want on a bad night.

3. BetBlocker: best free gambling blocker

BetBlocker is a free blocker run by a charity registered in Scotland, with no ads and no sign-up (betblocker.org). You choose a block from 1 day to 5 years, and once it starts, nobody can lift it early, including BetBlocker's own support team. You can also schedule blocks or use it as a parental control.

Price: free, with no in-app purchases. Platforms: iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Fire OS. Ratings: 2.9 from 87 ratings on the App Store, where some reviews mention slowdowns and over-blocking, and 3.0 on Google Play.

BetBlocker's FAQ is upfront about the trade-offs. You can't reset a lost password, some versions use a VPN that can block printers and other devices on your home network, and the Android version showed about a 10% battery drop in BetBlocker's own testing. There are no urge tools or community.

4. Evive: best free recovery support app

Evive: Gambling Support is a free app from Evive, Inc. in Boston, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases (App Store). It works whether you want to quit or cut back, which makes it an easy first step if you aren't sure yet.

You get daily check-ins, urge tools, progress tracking, short lessons, a peer community, and a finder for local therapists and meetings. Massachusetts' Office of Problem Gambling Services announced the app on October 1, 2026.

Price: free. Platforms: iPhone and Android. App Store rating: 4.8 from 249 ratings.

What's missing is a blocker, so pair Evive with BetBlocker or Gamban.

5. Cashed Out: closest alternative to QuitBet

Quit Gambling: by Cashed Out is from Koby Empire, Inc., which also makes the Sunflower sobriety app. It's the closest thing to QuitBet on this list, and it runs on Android too.

The App Store listing describes a streak and money-saved counter, an AI companion called Marcus, a panic button with breathing and CBT-style thought challenges, daily check-ins, a 30-day quit challenge, an anonymous community, lessons, and a website blocker.

Price: free download, then "Cashed Out Premium" purchases from $6.99 to $49.99 (the listing doesn't say which period each one covers). Platforms: iPhone and Android. App Store rating: 4.7 from 94 ratings.

One limit: the blocker is a Safari content blocker, so it targets websites in Safari rather than sportsbook apps. The app launched in February 2026.

6. Bet Breaker: blocker with a panic button

Quit Gambling: Bet Breaker, from Moxyz Studio, is a blocker first with some recovery extras. It has 4.8 stars from 416 ratings on the App Store.

One tap on its panic button blocks gambling instantly. It also blocks betting sites across web browsers (using what the developer calls a constantly updated database), with personal stats, an AI assistant, and a Sponsors mode for an accountability partner.

Price: free download, but the features need a subscription. The listing shows ten "Premium Features" purchases from $5.99 to $89.99 without saying which is which. Platforms: iPhone.

Downsides: the listing doesn't mention a community, and it's hard to know what you'll pay until you reach the paywall.

7. Mindshift Recovery: best free program with live group calls

Mindshift Recovery is a free app from a nonprofit co-founded by addiction psychiatrist Dr. Jud Brewer (mindshiftrecovery.org). It covers gambling alongside alcohol, smoking, social media and other habits.

The App Store listing describes lessons on why cravings happen, a step-by-step method for working with them, progress tracking, an online community, and live Zoom calls.

Price: free. Platforms: iPhone and Android. App Store rating: 4.9 from 208 ratings.

Mindshift isn't built for gambling specifically, and it doesn't block anything.

8. RecoverMe: best for structured CBT lessons

RecoverMe, from UK company Bet On Me Ltd, teaches cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) skills over six sessions. Its listing says psychologists and psychiatrists helped design it, and CBT has the strongest evidence of the psychological treatments studied for gambling (Eriksen et al., 2023). You also get a diary, mindfulness audio and an SOS section for live urges. The listing itself suggests pairing it with blocking software.

Price: free download. The App Store lists monthly plans at $4.49 and $13.99 and yearly plans at $44.99 and $139.99. Platforms: iPhone. App Store rating: 4.6 from 23 ratings.

Keep in mind that RecoverMe was built for a UK audience, has no blocker, and has few US ratings.

9. Nomo: best free sobriety tracker that covers gambling

Nomo - Sobriety Clocks is a free streak counter made by Parker Stech, a developer in recovery. Its App Store listing names gambling among the habits you can track. (I Am Sober is more popular, but its listing doesn't mention gambling, so we left it out.)

You can run unlimited clocks, see money saved, collect milestone tokens, journal, do morning and evening check-ins, and alert accountability partners when you're tempted. A PIN or Face ID keeps the app private.

Price: free. The iPhone version has no in-app purchases, and the Android version shows ads. Platforms: iPhone and Android. App Store rating: 4.8 from 16,626 ratings.

Nomo is a general tracker, so you won't find a blocker or gambling-specific lessons.

10. Birches Health: best for therapy with a gambling specialist

Birches Health is an online treatment provider for gambling, sports betting, trading and gaming problems. You get video sessions with a clinician, and the company says it works in all 50 states (bircheshealth.com).

Treatment runs on a 12-week schedule, followed by a free peer recovery network. Birches says it's in-network with most major insurers, including BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna and Cigna, and that many clients pay roughly $0 to $25 per session (Birches pricing).

Price: depends on your insurance, and no self-pay price is published. Platforms: video sessions.

The catch is that you won't know your cost until they check your plan, and there's a late-cancel fee. Kindbridge Behavioral Health is another online option, with a free 15-minute intake call.

11. Apple Screen Time and Android Digital Wellbeing: free built-in blocking

Your phone already has free blocking tools. On iPhone, Screen Time can block a specific app or website, stop new app installs, and lock those settings behind a passcode (Apple Support). On Android, Digital Wellbeing's Focus mode and app timers can pause or cap chosen apps, with a PIN to stop changes (Google Help).

Price: free. Platforms: iPhone and Android.

Neither tool has a gambling blocklist, so you add each sportsbook and casino yourself, and new ones slip through. If you know the passcode, you can also turn it off, so ask someone you trust to set it. Google Family Link is designed for parents supervising a child's account (Google).

12. 1-800-MY-RESET: free support by call, text or chat

1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) is the National Problem Gambling Helpline, run by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG). It isn't an app, but it fits in your pocket: you can call, text or chat for free, 24/7, from any US state (NCPG). Trained people answer, not AI, in more than 240 languages (NCPG toolkit, 2026). The number replaced 1-800-GAMBLER as NCPG's national line on January 29, 2026.

Price: free. Save it in your contacts now, under a name you'll actually tap on a bad night.

Other quit-gambling apps we checked

These came up in our search or in AI chatbot answers, but most are new, with a handful of ratings. Details are from each App Store listing on October 10, 2026.

App (developer) What it offers Price (US) App Store rating
Betttr (Bettr Bet LLC) Website and app blocker, state self-exclusion walkthrough, community, panic mode $12.99/month or $99.99/year ($19.99 first year); no free trial 5.0 (16)
NEVRR (Christopher Lo Verde) Site blocker, "Ace" AI coach, community, distraction games Subscription required; purchases $6.99 to $49.99 4.7 (70)
Bankroll: Quit Sports Betting (Nicholas Kitchen) Streak, money saved, "Vig" AI chat, panic button, community $9.99/month or $79.99/year; 3-day trial 5.0 (3)
Bye Bet (Micom Tech SRL) Streak, craving log, SOS button, accountability partner; built with addiction NGO ALIAT $4.99/week, $12.99/month, $49.99/year 5.0 (4)
Betless (Jeremy Lee) Blocker, days-clean tracker, community Purchases $3.99 to $59.99 5.0 (2); last updated Nov 2025

One thing to know if you're in recovery: Bye Bet's developer also publishes sports betting tips apps. We also looked for Gambling Therapy, a free service from UK charity Gordon Moody, but its app didn't show up on the US App Store. Its website works for anyone.

Which quit gambling app should you choose?

There's no single best app to stop gambling. Pick by situation, and expect to combine two or three.

  • If you bet on sports from your iPhone, QuitBet handles check-ins, urges and blocking in one app. Delete your sportsbook apps and close the accounts too. Our guide on how to stop sports betting covers each step.
  • If money is tight, BetBlocker plus Evive costs nothing. Add Mindshift Recovery if you want live calls.
  • If you also gamble on a laptop, use Gamban or BetBlocker, which both run on Windows and Mac. Our Gamban vs BetBlocker vs QuitBet comparison goes deeper.
  • If you play online casino games or slots, a device-level blocker matters most, because those games never close. See how to stop casino addiction and our guide to slot machine addiction.
  • If you want treatment, try Birches Health or Kindbridge for therapy by video, free Gamblers Anonymous meetings, or state-funded counseling (North Carolina offers up to 12 free sessions). Our guide to gambling rehab vs Gamblers Anonymous vs therapy compares them.
  • If you're a partner or parent, a blocker only works if the person agrees to it. You can offer to hold their Screen Time passcode, and get support yourself through Gam-Anon or 1-800-MY-RESET.

Do gambling apps actually work?

Apps can help, but the evidence for consumer apps is thin, and results are stronger for structured programs with a human involved.

A 2023 Yale-led review scored 14 gambling-specific apps (blockers and paid apps were excluded) on a standard app-quality scale. They averaged 3.25 out of 5, and engagement was the weakest area at 2.44. Apps with CBT content or an in-app community scored higher (McCurdy et al., 2023).

Online programs look better. A meta-analysis of 13 randomized trials found a moderate-to-large drop in gambling symptoms right after internet-delivered treatment, with bigger effects when a therapist supported the program (Sagoe et al., 2021). Those were research programs, though, not the apps on this list.

QuitBet hasn't been tested in a clinical trial. Several apps here describe themselves as evidence-based, and if that matters to you, ask the developer for the study. Our view is that any app is one layer. A blocker buys you time and an app gets you through the next hour, but the longer work happens with people: a therapist, a GA group, the helpline.

Is there an AI for gambling addiction?

Yes. Several quit-gambling apps now include an AI chat for the moment an urge hits: QuitBet's AI coach, Marcus in Cashed Out, Bet Breaker's AI assistant, Ace in NEVRR, and Vig in Bankroll.

An AI coach answers instantly and doesn't judge, which counts for a lot when it's late and you're one tap from a deposit. QuitBet's coach, for example, offers quick prompts like "Distract me" and "Make a plan," then walks you through the next few minutes.

AI isn't therapy, though. It can get things wrong, and it isn't a crisis service. If you need a person, 1-800-MY-RESET is answered by trained humans. If you're thinking about suicide, call or text 988.

FAQ

What is the best free app to stop gambling?

BetBlocker is the best free gambling blocker. It has no fees, ads or sign-up, and once you start a block, you can't lift it early. For free recovery support, Evive has check-ins, lessons and a community on iPhone and Android. Many people use both, plus the free 1-800-MY-RESET helpline.

Does Gamban work on iPhone?

Yes. Gamban has an iPhone app (iOS 15.6 or later) and also runs on Android, Windows and Mac. In the US it costs $6.99 a month or $41.99 a year after a 7-day free trial. Michigan residents can get it free through the state's gaming regulator.

Can I block gambling apps without paying?

Yes. BetBlocker is free on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux. Apple Screen Time and Android Digital Wellbeing can also block specific apps and websites, but they don't come with a gambling list, so you'll add each sportsbook yourself. Have someone you trust set the passcode.

Is there an app for sports betting addiction?

Yes. QuitBet, Bankroll and Betttr are built with sports bettors in mind, and Gamban and BetBlocker stop sportsbook apps and sites from opening. Whichever quit sports betting app you pick, also close your sportsbook accounts and look into your state's self-exclusion program.

Are gambling recovery apps private?

It varies, so read the App Privacy section on the App Store page before you sign up. BetBlocker needs no account and lists no data linked to you. QuitBet's label says device identifiers may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and Evive's says location and contact info may be linked to you. Nomo and Bankroll can lock behind Face ID or a PIN.

How much do gambling addiction apps cost?

Some are free, including BetBlocker, Evive, Mindshift Recovery and Nomo. Paid apps vary widely: Gamban is $41.99 a year, and QuitBet's yearly plans run $19.99 to $49.99. Weekly and monthly plans add up fast, so check the in-app purchase list on the App Store before you subscribe.

Can an app replace therapy or Gamblers Anonymous?

No. Apps help most between sessions and late at night, when nobody else is up. In research on online gambling programs, the ones with therapist support worked better than self-guided ones. Use an app alongside therapy, GA or the helpline.

Need to talk to someone right now? Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), or chat online, to reach the National Problem Gambling Helpline. It's free and confidential, and it's open 24/7. If you're having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988.
